Deadly Fists of Kung Fu
Deadly Fists of Kung Fu
Beach culture is rarely the breeding ground for fine rock and roll music. Most coastal towns have excellent rock radio stations, and the atmosphere fairly screams for some action, but, as far as actually producing acts worthy of merit, most of these places fail hard and often.

Not so with that jewel of the panhandle: Pensacola, Florida. Pensacola has a beautiful pedigree in regards to making the bang bang go boom boom. I'll spare you the history lesson, but, as it stands right this minute, there's a swinging little quartet that's going to make you quake in your boots like Speedy in a Manhattan shooting gallery.

The Deadly Fists of Kung Fu have been filling the empty gaps in the sonic spectrum with screaming guitars and a brutally tight rhythm section for a few years now. With more hooks than a tackle box and riffs that'll strip paint, these four sand-rats have put smiles on the faces of drunken shrimpers and the hippest of indie rockers from Tampa to Charlotte and all points in between.

The Bullet, The Badger, Sleepy Alvarez and The Big Thirsty. If these monikers sound vaguely like superheroes, or, for that matter, like low-rent action figures to you, you're in for a real treat.

Too good to be ignored and just too stubborn to quit. Grab a couple of party chugs and let yourself fall prey to the Sunshine State's finest. I may be higher than hell on over-the-counter cold medicine right now, but, in this savant's humble opinion, these fellas have got the goods.

The Whims
The Whims
Formed in 2008, Brooklyn NYC's The Whims create catchy, lush indie rock. 60s hooks meets 70s guitars -- all filtered through a 90s slacker aesthetic.
